Antônio Fagundes Brusque, Santa Catarina Obituary, Pastor Antônio Fagundes at Dies 63
Brazil awoke to sorrow on Sunday, July 26th, with the confirmation of the death of Pastor Marcos Antônio da Silva Fagundes, at 63 years old. Widely known in the region simply as Antônio Fagundes, the respected religious leader passed away in the early hours at Azambuja Hospital in Brusque, Santa Catarina.
A native of Rio Grande do Sul, Pastor Fagundes had chosen Brusque as his home, where he built a life dedicated to faith and social service. For years, he was a central pillar of the local evangelical community, earning recognition as one of the area’s most well-known religious figures. His leadership extended beyond the pulpit; he presided over the Council of Pastors of Brusque (COPAB) and was a committed collaborator with the Group for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (GRUPIA). Through this work, he actively participated in initiatives and actions focused on defending the rights and well-being of children and youth, leaving a legacy of compassion and advocacy.

His passing at 3:40 a.m. leaves a profound void. He is survived by his wife, four children, five grandchildren, and a wide circle of family, friends, and congregants who mourn his loss. The community will gather to pay their final respects at a funeral service held at Calvary Church. The burial is scheduled for Monday, July 27th, with the procession departing at 10:30 a.m. for the Parque da Saudade Cemetery.
Pastor Antônio Fagundes’s life was marked by a steadfast commitment to his community, blending spiritual guidance with tangible social action. His death is not just the loss of a religious leader, but of a dedicated protector who worked tirelessly for the most vulnerable.
